There is nothing like a touch of fresh paint to breathe new life into a room. Here you have a guide for how to tackle your paint project.

You will need

Tools of high quality are a good investment as they can help you on your way to achieving a nice and uniform finish. Below, you will find a list of tools you need for your project.

  • A pouch of Notes paint

  • Paintbrush and paint roller

  • Soap (for cleaning the wall pre-painting)

  • Painting tray

  • Masking tape

  • Dust sheet (to protect your floor and furniture)

  • Paint roller extension pole (only if you want to make your job easier)

Preparation

Start by making space for your project. Move any furniture and make sure that there are no things left hanging on your wall. It is also a good idea to vacuum the room and ceiling so you avoid dust and fluff getting caught up in the paint. Cover the floor well and if needed, cover furniture with plastic. Now you are ready to fit the masking tape so you can achieve sharp and clean lines. For this part, being meticulous and taking your time will pay off in the end. Make sure to press down the tape so it sits tight.

If you have had paintings or shelves hanging on your wall, it is time to fill out the holes with filler. Remember to let these dry before you begin painting. Once the filler is dry, you can give it a quick sanding with some sandpaper to make the surface smooth and even. Remember to wipe over the area with a damp cloth so there is no dust left on the wall.

How to paint a wall

Time for the fun part! Grab your Notes pouch and give it a quick shake, before pouring the paint into a paint tray. Dip your paintbrush in the paint and start painting all edges and corners. Then, time to use the paint roller. Roll it in the paint tray so that you have an even layer of paint on the roller. Then you begin painting the wall in “W” or “M” shapes to distribute the paint evenly. Once the wall is covered in an even layer of paint, let it dry for a couple of hours before you repeat the process with the second layer.

While the second layer dries, you can remove the masking tape. As a rule of thumb, masking tape should be removed while the paint is still wet. Our Notes tape, however, can stay on the wall for several days without causing you any trouble.

When the second layer is applied, you can remove the tape, dust sheet and coverings. Leave the wall to dry for 24 hours before you begin moving your furniture and putting things on the wall.

Voila! Your wall is now done. Fun, easy and quick
