When the room is properly prepared, you are ready to fix the masking tape. The longer strips you can attach, without having to break up the masking tape, the sharper and straighter the results generally become. Roll out about one meter of tape at a time and fix it as straight as you can. When you are satisfied with how the tape is placed, make sure the tape is tightly sealed to avoid paint seeping under the tape. Drag a finger along the fixed tape and make sure there are no air bubbles.

Make sure to apply masking tape around all the areas you wish to protect: Window frames, sockets, light switches, skirting boards, door handles, and door frames.

Tips & Tricks

Once you start painting, sweep the paint away from the tape edge. If you paint towards the paint edge you risk accidentally pushing the paint underneath the tape.

If you are painting a wall in two different colours, masking tape will also help you achieve sharp edges between the colours. Painting a wall in two different colours might seem like a daunting project, but with a few tips and tricks, it is not as challenging as you may think. Simply follow our step-by-step guide on how to paint a wall in two different colours for a flawless result.

The very last step, after painting, is removing the tape. As a rule of thumb, you should remove the masking tape from the wall while the paint is still wet and no later than 24 hours after finishing painting. However, this doesn’t apply to our Premium Tape which can stay on the wall for several days. So no need to worry about that.
